Dr. Rafiq Islam (Kansas City): This year Sakif Islam from Liberty High School in Kansas City was selected for Missouri Scholars 100. Since its inception in 1994, the MOASSP (Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals) recognize 100 of top scholars in the graduating class from Missouri’s high school. Missouri Scholars 100 is a statewide program that honors 100 of Missouri’s top academic students in the graduating class. The program is sponsored by the Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals. The Missouri Scholars 100 Program is one of the most premier academic recognition programs in the country and celebrates the achievement and success of the graduating students in Missouri.
Each nominated student first had to meet criteria of an “Academic Decathlon,” which included ten “events” designed to assure the academic strength of the student. Excellent grades, test scores, advanced-level courses, attendance and school citizenship were considered during the selection process.
Sakif is the only Bangladeshi descent this year’s Missouri Scholars 100 and is the son of Dr. Rafiq Islam of Dinajpur and Ismot Parvin of Kumarkhali, Kushtia.
